Selection for the Monique Truquet Prize

The Prix Monique Truquet is a literary prize created in May 2024.
It rewards a short story written by a visually impaired author and publishes it simultaneously in black and Braille, along with the best short stories in the selection.
The result of a collaboration between the Centre de Transcription et d'édition en Braille (CTEB) and Renaissens, this prize pays tribute to Monique Truquet, designer of TOBIA, the first Braille transcription software that has enabled many blind people to live more independently.
The competition jury chose "How I saved the world" as the theme for this first edition of 2024.
The Prix Monique Truquet was awarded to Fayabird for her short story "D'un coup de gomme".

Synopsis

Esteban, Fayabird, Emmanuelle Gousset, Lynn Hellénore, Sarah Jordy, Norah Lemay, Emmanuel Le Ricque, Olivia Pfortner and Maeva Raimbault: these nine visually impaired authors invite us to discover the worlds they hope to save, the theme of the Prix Monique Truquet short story competition.
Their stories, often touching, sometimes funny, always explosive, take us into worlds where mysterious little creatures, unusual objects, cities reduced to silence and treasures of the imagination come together.
And it makes you wonder: how do these authors manage to achieve such perceptive finesse despite their visual difficulties? Can we see further with words than with our eyes? For these novelists, most of whom lost their sight in childhood, words have become not only a refuge but an infinite source of discovery. This "rebirth of the senses" (Renaissens) takes on its full meaning here.
