Author's biography
A graduate from Sup de Co, Michel Pain-Edeline first envisaged a career as a dynamic young executive when a multiple sclerosis paralysed him, forcing him to become a teacher instead. Accustomed from childhood to an irresistible need for freedom, writing helped to alleviate the physical and moral suffering linked to his disability. The characters he comes up with – astonishing in their endurance and simplicity – invite the reader to live fully, without anyspatial or temporal limits. His characters cross centuries, on foot, on horseback, in the air, sink into the forests, the deserts... Michel thinks, he writes. He never stops. The paralysis pushes him to always be more observant. During entire afternoons and nighs, he travels in the company of these human beings he has shaped with words and paper. Then came the computer, the dictaphone… The disease evolves but his writing continues with a rare beauty which has been rewarded on numerous occasions at the Salon du livre de la Rochelle, Lectura, Prix Marie de Buttlar, competition for the small edition of Marseilles…

Synopsis
A collection of eleven short stories that juggle between the themes of love, nature, power, religion and where the horse occupies an important place. From the Middle Ages to the present day, Michel’s writing style could be described as literary goldsmithery as the author seeks to show all the facets of reality, both physical and sensory. Each sentence is finely chiseled without ever appearing too long. We pass through the time without any concern for extreme precision. Between fantasy, philosophy and naturalism, these short stories freeze the passage of time. Each century has its own character, including this man in a wheelchair looking out to sea, like a mise en abyme of the author's very special story.
