Summary of the novel
Juliette has always lived with cystic fibrosis, an invisible but implacable disease that forces her to live with the rhythm of treatments, precautions and an uncertain future. When she met Sébastien in Paris, at the end of her law studies, she chose not to talk about her condition, driven by the desire to live a "normal" life. A year later, when they moved in together, she finally told him the truth. He soon discovers the brutality of the illness - but above all Juliette's strength - during a three-week stay in hospital for a severe lung infection.
Instead of pulling away, he loves her more. But this love clashes with the well-ordered certainties of his bourgeois family (Bon chic, bon genre - BCBG -, living in the very beautiful districts of Paris), who are not at all ready to accept the illness... and the love that disturbs.
TIPS FOR ROOFING
- Avoid using characters with realistic features (they will never resemble the characters in the novel).
- Choose a symbolic-abstract form or characters in backlighting/Chinese shadows...
- Locations: Paris Latin Quarter - hospital intensive care unit - Juliette covered in dressings and infusions - Giverny, Monnet's house where Sébastien proposes to Juliette - Parisian garden that Juliette often walks through (Luxembourg Gardens style, Paris 6th arrondissement) - cafe terraces in old Paris - Sébastie's family (30-year-old sister and parents who are very "bon chic bon genre" and a bit stuffy, They have an art nouveau house in the 16th arrondissement) - the Parisian balcony of Juliette and Sébastien's flat (a Hausmann-style building), where Juliette and Sébastien often meet for a drink and a chat - Cristina, a rather extravagant young woman.
- A recurring theme is the glasses of Proseco they drink.
- Juliette's suitcase of medicines and her inhaler.
- WARNING: there are no palm trees in Paris. No exotic trees.
- Even if there are medical elements (however discreet or symbolic) the cover should make the reader want to buy the book.
